AUSTIN, Texas — A new report from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) finds that Austin ISD is exceeding both state and local rates of college readiness in nearly all student groups.
According to the Texas Academic Performance Report, Austin ISD students perform higher than the state and region, with 70% of district students showing college, career and military readiness.
Comparatively, the report found that only 48% of students at the state level and 57% at the regional level show the same level of readiness.
Austin ISD also saw above average trends in nearly every student group, including African American, Hispanic, Emergent Bilingual and Special Education students.
The data comes from a tracking of 2022 graduations, which shows 60% of those graduates enrolled in a Texas four-year public university in the year following their graduations earned a 3.0 GPA better.
The TAPR is released by the TEA each year, and contains a variety of performance data and information about districts and schools across the state. The report’s findings are tied to performances on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STARR) Test for students in grades 3 through 12.
The data lags by one year, so the latest TAPR results covers the 2023–24 school year. For college readiness, the data is focused on the 2022–23 school year.
