CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man shot during a SWAT operation in Charleston on Thursday, March 6, has died, according to the Charleston Police Department.

The incident happened on Rebecca Street and Washington Street West, officials confirmed.

Police tell WSAZ.com the SWAT Team was getting ready to serve a search warrant in the area stemming from a shooting and robbery in the 1300 block of Grant Street on February 23, 2025, that left a victim in critical condition.

According to the Charleston Police Department, when the suspect walked out of a business along Washington Street West, he pulled out a gun and pointed it in the direction of SWAT officers.

After refusing to drop his weapon, one SWAT officer fired one round, hitting the suspect.

SWAT officers and medics immediately rendered aid at the scene, until a paramedic unit transported the suspect to a hospital.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The suspect was identified as Disnime Mitchell, 23, of Charleston, who was wanted on 1st degree robbery charges.

Police say they are still searching for another suspect.

No one else was injured during the incident.

Law enforcement are asking people to avoid the area.
