VCEDA Seed Capital Grant Approved for The Athlete’s Bakery & Blends LLC(VCEDA)

RICHLANDS, Va. – The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority has announced a Tazewell County based food truck is the latest recipient of its Seed Capital Matching Grant.

The Athlete’s Bakery & Blends LLC will receive $10,000 to help grow its business in Southwest Virginia. According to a press release the food truck’s goal is “providing healthy food options to benefit athletes, spectators and the general public” as the mobile eatery stations itself at many athletic events across our region.

With the funds the business will outfit a second truck to expand its operation.

“With the new truck, we will be able to serve a broader selection of superfoods to athletes, spectators and the general public at athletic events, festivals and fairs,” Operator Colton Mullins said. “In addition to the refined-sugar free and non-GMO products we offer, there are also organic, gluten-free and vegan options available. We want to make a difference in the way nutrition is perceived and delivered.”

Those with VCEDA say they were impressed with Colton’s business acumen and his drive to grow.

“It’s a business with appeal to locals as well as tourists,” said Jonathan Belcher, VCEDA executive director/general counsel. “The business projects six full-time employees and nine part-time employees within five years.”

“It meant a lot to me as a young entrepreneur to receive the seed capital grant,” Mullins said. “The funds came at a good time because when you are starting out, anything that helps you to get started is great.”
