The incident happened in August 2024 at the intersection of Payton Gin Road and North Lamar Boulevard.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a man who was believed to be involved in an attempted sexual assault that occurred in North Austin last August.

The man was seen inside a convenience store at the intersection of Payton Gin Road and North Lamar Boulevard at around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 26. The victim was walking on the sidewalk of Payton Gin Road when she said she was approached by an unknown suspect.

The man allegedly tried to engage in conversation with the victim, but she didn’t engage and continued walking. He then allegedly caught up to the victim, grabbed her from behind, threw her on the ground and attempted to sexually assault her, according to APD.

Detectives identify the man as:

  • Approximately 5-foot-7
  • Dark complexion
  • Heavy build
  • 130-140 pounds
  • Medium-length, curly, black hair

He was last seen wearing:

  • Green shirt with a logo in the front, with the word “PARTICIPANT” spelled out on the back
  • Light brown, cargo-style shorts
