WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) – A Kansas woman who’s battling a terminal illness is getting the help she needs from the community.
Esther Farrell beat cervical cancer and was declared cancer-free in December 2024, only to be diagnosed with terminal cancer two months later.
“It was tumors on my brain, and they have also spread,” she said.
But the bride-to-be says she is still planning to walk down the aisle.
And after hearing her story, the Sedgwick County community has come together to raise over $14,000 for Farrell and her fiance’, Nathan Furches, to do just that.
“It’s overwhelming, but like a good overwhelming because it’s like people care,” Farrell said.
The two are now planning to get married on Saturday, with everything for the couple’s beautiful wedding being donated, from the venue down to Farrell’s nails being done.
“The help has been tremendous. That’s taken a huge weight off of our shoulders,” she said.
The couple said they are excited and beyond grateful.
“I’m so ready to get married,” Farrell said. “And we wouldn’t be able to do it without the community.”
