The new location will be nearly 90% smaller than its location in Round Rock which opened in 2006.

SAN MARCOS, Texas — IKEA is bringing a new, smaller concept to booming Central Texas.

The iconic Swedish retailer will soon open a new location off I-35 in San Marcos to serve the community, along with Austin and San Antonio. The new location will be the first of its kind in Texas and nearly 90% smaller than its store in Round Rock which opened in 2006.

According to IKEA, the smaller concept helps bring the store’s experience closer to people, while connecting better with the community and making deliveries more affordable.

IKEA San Marcos will be 35,000 square feet and showcase “local living” solutions tailored for Central Texans while ensuring the everyday needs of those in the San Marcos area are met.

More than 2,500 products will be displayed at IKEA San Marcos, with 2,000 items available for immediate purchase. The store will also offer a small range of Swedish Food Market items and have a full product range available for home delivery or pick-up.

IKEA San Marcos will be the company’s ninth store in Texas. The store will officially open this spring inside the San Mar Plaza shopping center along State Highway 80.

For those who don’t want to drive to Round Rock or San Marcos, IKEA has an even smaller concept inside the Domain in Austin.

The company opened “IKEA Austin: Plan & order point” in 2024, a studio that allows specialists to advise on home renovation and other projects. IKEA will then deliver all the selected items directly to your home.

IKEA Austin was one of four new locations that recently opened, joining Atlanta, Houston and Los Angeles.
