A massive fire engulfed three yachts on the Miami River early Friday morning, prompting authorities to launch an arson investigation.

Firefighting units responded to an area near 3250 NW North River Drive, in northwest Miami-Dade, just after 3:30 a.m. for reports of a boat fire, CBS News Miami reported.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found three luxury boats engulfed in flames. Two of the yachts were 60 feet long, according to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. The third boat was around 90 feet long, officials said.

One of the vessels sank before sunrise, according to NBC South Florida.

Crews attacked the blaze from both land and water, using foam to extinguish the flames. Video from the scene shows thick black and orange smoke billowing from the three boats as the fire intensified.

One man staying in a nearby hotel told local TV station WSVN that he woke up to what sounded like an explosion, which “literally shook the entire hotel.”

Officials said there were no reported injuries.

The fire is now being investigated as arson, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
