(InvestigateTV) — Whether from a condition at birth or traumatic injury, a missing or damaged iris can lead to serious vision problems.

Patients have to deal with sensitivity to bright lights and are often unhappy with their appearance.

Now, there’s a groundbreaking device that can help improve their vision.

In 2018, the Food and Drug Administration greenlit the first standalone prosthetic iris that can be surgically implanted. It’s the only product of its kind currently approved in the United States.

Reporter Zac Summers introduces us to the first person in Missouri to get the surgery.
