Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was released from jail Saturday — and was not charged with a crime after he was arrested Friday night on domestic violence accusations.

Worthy, 21, was detained at his home in the Austin suburb of Georgetown. However, the local district attorney declined to press charges against the University of Texas alum.

“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time,” the Williamson County District Attorney’s office told the Austin American-Statesman.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the case, and charges could be brought against Worthy at a later date.

Worthy was initially booked Friday night on a “criminal charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation,” according to Williamson County jail records.

Attorneys for Worthy quickly released a statement refuting the allegations. They claimed a woman who had been living with Worthy made “a number of extortive efforts” prior to Friday’s arrest.

The lawyers claimed Worthy and the woman were dating and living together until she cheated on him and he asked her to move out. They also claimed she physically attacked him, but Worthy did not want to press charges.

The Chiefs selected Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Texas, and he finished second on the team with 638 receiving yards in his rookie year. Worthy also led the team with six receiving touchdowns.
