MCDOWELL COUNTY, W.Va. – As McDowell County continues its battle against the flood damage from February, the Welch Volunteer Fire Department has continued its supply distribution.

A volunteer with the distribution, Nancy Osborne, said they’re still being blessed with donations from good Samaritans.

“They come like every other day, some days we don’t see no trucks at all, and we get low on supplies, and then… the next day I’m like, ‘God, please send us a truck because we really need it,’ and they just pop up,” said Osborne.

With out-of-state support coming to McDowell County, one group of donors travelled here from Tennessee to provide aid. They run a nonprofit in Virginia called ‘The Clothes Closet,’ bringing donations they received from their local communities to Welch.

“I just think it’s a great thing that people are still doing this. So many people donate in the first couple of weeks after a flood or any kind of a disaster, but they don’t think about it a month down the line,” said Becky Hale, Co-Founder of The Clothes Closet.

At present, donations are still greatly needed for the residents of McDowell County, especially cleaning supplies.

“Definitely bring whatever you can. I would say it’s definitely needed, I wouldn’t have drove up here from Bristol today if it wasn’t,” added Hale.
