The station is the final one to open as part of a 2018 Austin City Council resolution that aimed to open five new stations in six years.

AUSTIN, Texas — Just as fire season begins, a new joint EMS and fire station has opened in northwest Austin.

Officials say the new station will help fill a gap in helping respond to emergencies faster and more efficiently. It will also house a brush truck that will be used to help fight wildfires.

“This is a key component to our strategic plan in getting those brush trucks to respond rapidly to really help us with our wildfire incidents,” Austin Fire Chief Joel Baker said Sunday.

The station, located on Ranch Road 620, is the final one to open as part of a 2018 Austin City Council resolution that aimed to open five new stations in six years. The new stations aim to serve areas with low response times and/or high population growth.
