Recovery Advocacy Day(SHCMHC)

CHARELSTON, W.Va. – Members of Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center represented our area in this year’s Recovery Advocacy Day at the West Virginia State Capitol.

Recovery Advocacy Day is a day that “focuses on identifying areas of interest related to treatment, prevention, and recovery efforts including legislation impacting West Virginians” according to the Virginia Association of Addition and Prevention Professionals.

Members of SHCMHC represented McDowell and Mercer Counties.

“As fellow Peer Recovery Support Specialists, When we look past the things that divide us and work towards a common goal, anything can be achieved. An approach that encompasses the existential reality that we are all human is the ground to create lasting and meaningful change. Our trip to the state capitol for Recovery Advocacy Day was imperative to our work to help legislation know how important it was for substance use treatment be taken seriously and our great state brought back from just being one bad statistic,” said a statement from Southern Highlands Peer Recovery Support.
