SURPRISE, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) – Police say a man and woman in Arizona are facing misdemeanor charges after a video went viral showing someone dumping a dog on the side of a road.
On Monday, 20-year-old Logan Gambill and 26-year-old Priscilla Galanos turned themself into police.
A video from a nearby homeowner showed a red SUV backing up on the roadway was shared over the weekend, showing someone pushing the dog out while someone was heard saying “bye-bye.”
Investigators said they used the homeowner’s video to help identify those inside the vehicle, and after being interviewed, detectives learned that Galanos was the dog’s owner.
Police said Galanos is facing a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge and Gambill has been charged with misdemeanor conspiracy to commit animal cruelty. They have since been released from police custody.
“I was angered. I was flabbergasted, shocked. Just so many emotions,” Joanna Buesen, the homeowner who posted the video on social media, said.
According to Buesen, the dog was malnourished but well-behaved.
“Anything that’s innocent deserves justice. I honestly believe that,” she said.
Surprise police said they plan to turn the dog over to the Arizona Humane Society later this week.
Authorities said those who cannot care for an animal should get help from the community or call a nearby shelter for assistance.
