PRINCETON, W.Va. -In Mercer County, the City of Princeton’s next big project is now underway with initial prep work beginning to construct the city’s new “wave pool.”

With site prep work now underway the $4 million project is set to be part of a new municipal complex.

The work today is moving existing power poles and lines to open the area for the project.

While currently an empty lot on Bee Street the concept art shows the wave pool will include a “splash pad,” along with an additional bathhouse building for showers, lockers, and office spaces for Princeton’s Recreation Department.

The city has worked closely with First Community Bank to finalize the $4,000,000 in bonds needed to begin work here, in addition to the $475,000 already secured by the city.

A contractor for the project will soon be chosen when the bids go out at a later date.

“So here shortly, I’d imagine in the next two months or so, we will put the project out to bid and you’ll see it in local publications, and we encourage local contractors and folks that believe they can meet the specs of the project to be able to respond to that and submit proposals.”

Once construction starts local leaders expect completion to come in about a year to 18 months.
