CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Logan and Wayne counties have been added to the list of counties where residents can apply for federal disaster aid after last month’s devastating flooding, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said Monday.

The governor announced that the federal government accepted his request for Individual Assistance in those two counties. Individual Assistance had already been approved in McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, and Wyoming counties.

According to the Governor’s Office, other counties in the original request still remain under consideration by FEMA. The Individual Assistance (IA) Program provides funds to individuals experiencing significant damage to homes or property.

“I’m grateful to the Trump administration for approving my request for recovery assistance in Logan and Wayne counties,” Morrisey said in the release. “The Individual Assistance program will provide relief to those in need and aid our recovery efforts across southern West Virginia.”

FEMA will begin accepting applications for Individual Assistance in Logan and Wayne counties. They will also be on the ground to assess potential sites for Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs).

Meanwhile, Morrisey’s Public Assistance request is still under review by FEMA. For information on how to apply for assistance, visit FEMA’s website here.
