Sen. Mark Kelly recently visited Ukraine and pledged his support for the country amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia.

PHOENIX — Billionaire Elon Musk is targeting U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly after the Democrat from Arizona expressed his support for Ukraine.

Kelly recently visited the country and pledged his support for the Ukrainian people amidst the ongoing war with Russia.

“What I saw proved to me we can’t give up on the Ukrainian people. Everyone wants this war to end, but any agreement has to protect Ukraine’s security and can’t be a giveaway to Putin,” Kelly wrote in a post on X, the social platform owned by Musk.

In response to the senator’s post, Musk wrote simply, “You are a traitor.”

Kelly responded to Musk’s comment by stating, “Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a basic tenet of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those of us who do.”

Gabby Giffords, the former Arizona congresswoman who survived an assassination attempt in 2011, was quick to defend her husband after Musk’s “traitor” comment by calling Kelly an “American hero.”

Kelly, who has made multiple visits to Ukraine since he was re-elected in 2022, has said he’s working with his colleagues to reinstate U.S. support for Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials have said that a Kyiv delegation is expected to soon meet with America’s top diplomat in Saudi Arabia and will propose a ceasefire with Russia, according to the Associated Press.
