SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3/Gray News) – The captain of a boat that sank in July 2018 has asked a judge to dismiss the case.

Kenneth McKee was captain of a Ride the Ducks boat when it sank in Table Rock Lake that July, killing 17 people on board.

17 people died in the duck boat accident

Investigators said there was plenty of warning given about severe weather in the area, but the boat still launched about 20 minutes after a thunderstorm warning was issued for Table Rock Lake.

McKee is facing charges that include 17 counts of involuntary manslaughter and 12 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Attorneys for McKee claim the employees on the boat did not know the winds associated with the storm.

The case has had several back-and-forth challenges since the tragedy, including McKee asking the judge to dismiss the case just this week.

Two supervisors are also facing charges.
