The project is three city blocks long.

AUSTIN, Texas — Construction continues on Phase II of the Texas Capitol Complex project, which costs around $500 million. It will house state employees from different public safety agencies.

On Wednesday, KVUE got an exclusive look from the ground of the Phase II project.

Around 200 workers at any given time are working to put up two buildings called Lavaca and North Congress. These buildings will be used to house state agencies like the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Public Safety.

Cory Cardner is the senior project manager with JE Dunn construction, working with the Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) who is facilitating the project.

“A lot of the agencies and more of a campus atmosphere – our mission is to delivery those buildings so more agencies are closer together,” he said.

The TFC said many of the state employees currently are in leased buildings. This will be state-owned property.

The Lavaca building’s underground parking is now done.

“Above this parking garage that you’re starting to see now is going to be a seven-story office building,” said Cardner. “A very cool feature of both buildings is that some of the stone we are using is actually mined in Marble Falls.”Next to it, at the North Congress building, they are working on parking.

“North Congress we are primarily working on the below-grade parking garage structure,” said Cardner. “As we talked about earlier, once we are complete with the garage there is another five levels of office building on top on that.”

Phase II is expected to be complete by 2026 and people will start able to move in by 2027.
