The body of missing 2-year-old Oregon boy Dane Paulsen was recovered from a river on Tuesday, according to authorities.

The boy had gone missing on March 1 from his front yard in Siletz — about 130 miles southwest of Portland — setting off a wide-scale search.

“At the time of Dane’s disappearance, he was playing in the front yard of their residence and out of sight of his parents,” the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

Dane’s body was discovered around 11:15 a.m. in the Siletz River, where the search had narrowed its focus. He was found by a volunteer diver about 3 miles downstream from his home.

Investigators said there was no evidence of a crime and believe Dane had been on the edge of the river and fell into the water. The sheriff’s office previously said the boy couldn’t swim.

“Our thoughts are with the family, who are facing an unbearable sorrow,” said Sheriff Adam Shanks. “We are deeply grateful for the support and dedication shown by the search teams and our communities throughout this difficult time, though we wish it was under different circumstances.”
