AUSTIN, Texas — The SAFE Alliance broke ground Wednesday morning on its newest supportive housing community in southeast Austin.
The Sasha, located at 1515 Grove Blvd., will provide 60 units to some of the city’s most vulnerable populations, pairing housing with voluntary wrap-around services for residents.
The Sasha is meant to serve people and families who need help maintaining stable housing, including those exiting homelessness, young Texans who are aging out of the foster care system and survivors of domestic violence.
SAFE Alliance CEO Julia Spann said The Sasha will address an important need in Austin.
“Over and over again, survivors tell us that they cannot get and stay safe if they do not have a safe place to go,” Spann said.
Spann said The Sasha’s 2 and 3-bedroom units will keep families together and safe while providing them with the resources they need to rebuild their lives after experiencing violence. The SAFE Alliance says The Sasha aims to break the cycles of abuse and homelessness, instead fostering long-term healing and resilience.
Capital and operating funds for The Sasha will come from Enterprise, the city of Austin’s Housing Finance Corporation, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, Austin’s Housing Authority, the Austin Community Foundation, Federal Home Loan Bank and Texas Capital Bank.
