BECKLEY, W. Va. -United Way of Southern West Virginia is turning to women donors, volunteers and advocates for help on ways to invest in the community. It’s part of their “Women United” affinity group, comprising more than 70,000 like-minded women leaders from around the world.
On Monday, United Way of Southern West Virginia’s first Women United group will hold their first meeting, where they will network, give input on improving health education, and financial stability in the area, and hear a presentation on “the power of female-led philanthropy.”
The executive director of United Way of Southern West Virginia, Trena Dacal, says they’ve already had a great response, with four dozen already RSVPed.
“…Women actually lead about eighty-five percent of household decisions regarding where they give and how they spend their monies, so it’s important for us to find a group that we can tap into their knowledge and see how they want to invest their dollars and really learn about where women want to see their dollars go and how they want that to improve their communities,” says Dacal.
Dacal says they are inviting others who are interested to join them as well. They will be having lunch at noon on Monday, March 17th at the Historic Black Knight Municipal Park. Those wanting more information can go to their website or give them a call at 304-253-2111 (ext. 102 to RSVP).
