
GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. – A man whose body was found Wednesday in the Greenbrier River has been identified and no foul play is suspected at this time.
Greenbrier County Sheriff Bart Baker said the victim is Shawn Carter, 43, of Union in Monroe County.
Officers were dispatched to the area near Second Creek at 6 p.m. after a report of a deceased person was made.
Deputies along with Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department members were able to recover the victim from the river. A vehicle belonging to the victim was found nearby.
Members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team processed the area. Baker said that, at this time, no foul play is suspected but it is still an ongoing investigation. Sgt M. T. Doss of the Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigator.
The Sheriff’s office was assisted by Ronceverte PD, Ronceverte VFD, Alderson EMS, and West Virginia State Police.
