The city recently launched the “Get Hired in Austin” campaign in an effort to fill more than 2,000 job openings.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin city leaders are aiming to hire thousands of federal workers who were laid off by the Trump administration.

Earlier this week, the city launched the “Get Hired in Austin” campaign in an effort to fill more than 2,000 job openings.

The campaign was introduced at a time when tens of thousands of federal government employees are being laid off or fired as part of efforts by the Trump administration to downsize the federal workforce.

“We are currently hiring for many vacancies at various skill levels and areas of expertise,” Austin City Manager T.C. Broadnax said in a Tuesday news release. “With so many dedicated public servants looking for work where they can make a difference, it only makes sense to let them know the City of Austin is a rewarding option.”

City staff says they are especially looking to hire people for engineering, information technology (IT) and health care positions.

“This is a unique opportunity to recruit professionals who want to start or continue their public service careers helping our community in Austin,” Mayor Kirk Watson said in Tuesday’s release. “I’m proud of the work our public servants do every day and hope to add to our talented workforce.”

People interested in applying can do so at this link. The city will also host a career expo event at the Palmer Events Center on April 2.
