Girl Scouts of the USA have reassured the public that their cookies are safe to eat.

WASHINGTON — As Girl Scout Cookie season is in full swing, a newly filed lawsuit is raising concerns about what’s inside the beloved treats. The lawsuit alleges that some Girl Scout Cookies contain heavy metals, pesticides, and other harmful toxins, leaving consumers questioning their safety.

A New York woman filed the lawsuit in federal court on Monday.

The legal action is based on a study conducted by advocacy groups Moms Across America and GMO Science that reportedly found toxins in 100% of the cookies tested. However, critics point out that the study relied on a small sample size—just 25 cookies collected from three states— which may not be representative of all Girl Scout cookies.

The lawsuit is seeking $5 million in damages on behalf of consumers nationwide who purchased the cookies. Additionally, it calls for greater transparency, demanding that the substances allegedly found in the cookies be disclosed on packaging.

In response, the Girl Scouts of the USA have reassured the public that their cookies meet all food safety regulations and are safe to consume.

This news comes on National Girl Scout Day. Wendy’s is giving out free Thin Mint Frosties in celebration.

Here’s what we know about the cookies.
