BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A company based around producing affordable and sustainable housing is now planning on putting together their first order by October of this year.
The president for Omnis Building Technologies says they were planning to begin production at their plant on John Nash Boulevard in January but due to continued supply chain issues they’re now aiming to have the first order out the door by October.
“We’ve had some supply chain issues and various others, a number of things that have occurred. As a new technology we have been able to take that opportunity to improve on some of the key components of our structures. Allowing to better our values which require a little re-engineering of the facility,” said Jonathan Hodson, president of the company.
Hodson says the facility in Bluefield is the first one the company has opened and says kinks were to be expected in the opening.
“It’s extremely frustrating. We are not being financed. This is all our money,” said Hodson.
He says the plan is still to hire around 220 people at the factory but so far have only hired three which includes a plant manager, a director of human resources and an engineer.
“We built a beautiful building down there, 135,000 square feet. It’s been sitting there for quite some time now and that’s burning a hole in our pocket and we’re really looking forward to getting it up and running as fast as possible to start filling all the orders that we have,” said Hodson.
Hodson says the company’s starting wage is still planned to be $30 per hour. He now expects the facility to be fully operational by the summer of 2026.
