Despite the loss, the Longhorns’ two SEC Tournament wins has put them in a good position to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

AUSTIN, Texas — Winning two games as the No. 12 seed was impressive, but the Texas Longhorns’ Cinderella run in the SEC Tournament came to an end Friday with an 83-72 loss to Tennessee in the quarterfinals.

The Longhorns came into Friday’s matchup just one day removed from prevailing in a double overtime thriller against Texas A&M, and it appeared as though the team may have ran out of gas against a well-rested Volunteer team that was playing in its first game this SEC Tournament.

Senior Kadin Shedrick led the Longhorns with 14 points. But defensively, Tennessee’s dynamic starting lineup was too much for the Longhorns to handle, as four starters finished in double figures with All-American Chaz Lanier leading the way with 23 points.

The loss now means the Longhorns’ fate is in the hands of the NCAA Tournament selection committee, who will decide the makeup of the 68-team bracket on Sunday.
