AUSTIN, Texas — A popular Austin landmark is remaining open after the risk of closure later this month.
Peter Pan Mini-Golf, located in South Austin, will keep its doors open after its lease was recently extended.
The golf course posted the update to Facebook on Thursday, stating, “We’ll be here past March 31st! All good. A big thank you to our wonderful fans.”
Last month, Cadence Bank became the business’ newest property manager, after the land was previously leased by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
The history of Peter Pan Mini-Golf
Throughout its 77 years of operation, the mini-golf destination has undergone several lease changes.
Back in 1999, a 20-year lease was signed by Peter Pan Mini-Golf owners and the Texas Youth Commission. This correction facility eventually became the TTJD, which signed a new five-year lease for the land in 2019.
In August 2023, KVUE reported that the land on the 18-hole course was under a lease with the TJJD, allowing owners Dismukes Massad and Julio Massad to continue renting the spot.
Then several months later, in December 2023, the course’s lease was extended again through September 2024. This came with the help of Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, as the lease was initially set to expire in March 2024.
In 2023, the owners also attempted to make their business a Historic Landmark.
Roughly one month before the lease was set to expire again, the lease was extended from September 2024 until March 2025. With the latest update, it’s still uncertain how long the newest lease will remain in effect.
You can find the beloved business at 1207 Barton Springs Rd.
