SEATTLE (Gray News) – A dog in Washington state died Thursday while on a walk with its owner after another person walking their dog shot it, according to authorities.
In a release, the Seattle Police Department said officers responded to the report of a shooting involving two people walking their dogs.
Officials said the dogs began fighting during their walk, prompting one of the owners to pull out a handgun and fire a round into the other dog.
After investigating, police determined the dog owner was acting in self-defense after they tried to get the dogs to separate.
The dog that was shot had a hold on the other dog’s neck and would not let go.
The dog that was shot died from the injury.
Officers secured the scene, and the dog owner who fired the shot left the scene but later called 911 to report the encounter.
Police said the owner was cooperative and they were able to get ahold of the weapon for investigation.
Officials said no arrests were made.
