Barriers are in place as the potential for falling glass still remains.

AUSTIN, Texas — A section of 6th Street west of Congress Avenue in Downtown Austin is closed after glass panels fell from a high-rise building under construction Saturday afternoon.

According to the Austin Fire Department, crews were on scene shortly after 5 p.m. As of around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, crews with AFD and Austin police officers were still at the scene as building personnel worked to remedy the issue.

Crews cleared the scene just before 9:15 p.m., but the 300 block of W 6th Street will remain closed overnight with barriers in place, as the potential for falling glass still remains.
