APD said officers found trauma on the body of one of the people involved in the wreck but that trauma was not related to the wreck.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened early Sunday morning in North Austin.

Around 3:46 a.m., officers responded to a call involving two cars in a wreck on northbound Interstate 35, near Braker Lane.

Police said they found one person in a car unconscious. They were pronounced dead around 4 a.m.

APD said officers found trauma on the body of one of the people involved in the wreck but that trauma was not related to the wreck.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident as Austin’s ninth homicide this year.

Authorities say no one is in custody right now. APD said the other driver involved in the crash is being cooperative.

TxDOT has asked drivers to expect rolling closures until 10 a.m. along I-35 as the investigation continues.
