FEMA providing guidance to those rebuilding after flood damage

RODERFIELD, W. Va. -With the flooding last month leaving destruction across McDowell County, FEMA has opened a temporary location to advise people as they begin the journey back to normalcy. You can visit FEMA at Jimmy’s Hardware in Roderfield to get free advice on how you can rebuild and repair the flood damage done to your home.

Mitigation specialists are available to provide education on flood insurance, how to deal with things like mold and mildew, and how to make your home more water and wind resistant as preparation for any future floods. Pamphlets and printed resources are available to take home as well.

We spoke to a FEMA spokesperson who says this information will be valuable, whether you have flood damage or are looking for preventative help.

“People may be… in a lot of cases, what you might call ‘do-it-yourself-ers’ who work with tools, are skilled in doing projects, and this will just help them in getting a little more of a feel for what they might need to do as they try to put back some of the missing pieces in their homes and try to make it such that maybe it won’t happen again…” says Nate Custer, FEMA media relations specialist.

You can stop by Jimmy’s Hardware at 23 County Rd. 7, Roderfield, WV Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. They are closed on Sunday.

You don’t have to be a McDowell County resident to get advice, and Custer says even those without flood damage can still benefit from learning about damage prevention as well.
