The starry revival of playwright David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross” — led by recent Oscar winner Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr — will reportedly get a jolt of estrogen with an all-female cast this summer.
An all-female replacement cast is being considered for the newest Broadway revival of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning work about four Chicago real estate salesmen competing to make the most sales or lose their jobs.
Reps for the production have not confirmed any casting announcements but gave a statement to media outlets on Monday about the possibility of breaking new ground.
“Over the years there has been interest expressed to both playwright David Mamet and producer Jeffrey Richards about an all-female cast of Glengarry Glen Ross,” the statement reads. “In fact, there was a reading in 2022 with a female company. At this time, the focus is on the production currently on Broadway starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, Bill Burr, Michael McKean, Donald Webber, Jr., Howard W. Overshown, John Pirruccello.”

A trailblazing all-female revival of the work was first announced in 2018 with Amy Morton tapped to direct, but it never got off the ground. That production was to have been produced by two of the current revival’s producers, Jeffrey Richards and Rebecca Gold.
Lead producer Richards was the press agent for the original production in 1984 and subsequently produced the revivals in 2005 and 2012.
In 1992, the work was also adapted into a James Foley-directed film starring Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and Ed Harris, for which Pacino earned an Oscar nomination.

The “Scarface” star led the last Broadway production of the profanity-laced play with a cast that included Bobby Cannavale, David Harbour and Richard Schiff.
Helmed by Tony Award winner Patrick Marber, the current incarnation of “Glengarry” is now in previews and will officially open March 31 at Broadway’s Palace Theatre.
Already extended for two weeks, performances are scheduled with the current cast contracted through June 14.
