Despite losing in the SEC Tournament final, the Longhorns still finished with a 31-3 record this season.

AUSTIN, Texas — After falling short in the Elite Eight three of the last four seasons, the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team is ready to make a Final Four run.

After an impressive 31-3 record this season, the Longhorns earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. Earning the No. 1 seed also means the Moody Center will host games in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, meaning the Longhorns will play at least one game at home and two if they’re able to advance past their First Round opponent, which will be either William & Mary or High Point, both of whom are No. 16 seeds.

If the Longhorns get past their opening round game – which they will be overwhelming favorites to do – they would face the winner of the matchup between No. 8 seed Illinois and No. 9 seed Creighton at the Moody Center in the Second Round.

If the Longhorns advance to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, those games would be played in Birmingham, Alabama. If they make it to the Women’s Final Four and National Championship, those games would be played in Tampa, Florida.

After being one of the nation’s most consistent teams all season, the Longhorns likely enter the NCAA Tournament as a favorite to reach the Final Four. However, if they hope to finally breakthrough, they may have to face a familiar foe along the way. Notre Dame, who is one of only two teams to beat Texas this season, is the No. 3 seed in their bracket.
