AUSTIN, Texas — Two survivors of last week’s deadly pileup on Interstate 35 in North Austin are speaking out through their attorney, shedding light on the devastating impacts of the crash that claimed five lives and injured 11 others.
According to their attorney at FVF Law Firm, Francisco Villalobos, 29, and Priscilla Davila, 25, were in Austin to celebrate Davila’s birthday when their lives were forever changed. The couple had traveled from Nolanville, a town near Temple, for the occasion – but instead of celebrating, Davila spent her 25th birthday in the ICU.
Severe injuries and ongoing recovery
Davila, a hairstylist, remains hospitalized at Dell Seton Medical Center with extensive injuries. She is dealing with complications including a brain bleed; fractures in her sternum, ribs and vertebrae; and internal organ damage. Doctors are performing multiple cognitive tests to assess her brain function.
According to their attorney, Villalobos, who works at a cardboard box factory, is recovering at his parents’ home in Temple after undergoing surgery for injuries including a fractured vertebrae, a brain bleed and damage to his liver and spleen. According to their attorney, Villalobos has no memory of the crash.
Despite their physical challenges, both survivors are receiving emotional support from their families during this difficult time. We’re told they are teaming up to address massive logistical problems such as the couple’s apartment lease, their jobs, the need to locate medical providers outside of the hospitals and the fact that their phones and bank cards have been impounded with their car.
Legal action and unanswered questions
The couple’s attorney from FVF Law Firm said they have reached out to Amazon and ZBN Transport – the third-party company the firm believes employed the truck driver involved in the crash – but have not received a response. KVUE has also contacted both companies for comment but has yet to hear back.
While the cause of the pileup remains under investigation, these survivors are focused on recovery and seeking accountability for the tragic incident that upended their lives.
