PETERSTOWN, W.Va. – A house fire near Peterstown in Monroe County this morning claimed the life of a 77-year-old man.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire happened just before 3 a.m. at a house located on Seneca Trail South.

One person was able to safely escape the house but the victim was unable to do so. A vehicle with attached camper was also damaged in the fire.

Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s Office and have declared the cause of the fire as undetermined due to the severity of damage to the home.

The victim has been sent to the WV Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for positive identification and autopsy.
