TAZEWELL, Va. -The former “Painted Peak Brewing Company” building on Tazewell’s Main Street has been purchased, with plans for a new restaurant replacing it already underway.

Joint owners, Chris Myers and Donna Roberts, are combining their experience in the restaurant and the music industry to create a location described as a “gathering place,” not just as a restaurant, but as a live music venue, mercantile, and co-op.

It’s called “The Wayfarer” with the name chosen to represent the travelers they hope to serve coming through Tazewell and the travelers they hope to bring to Tazewell.

This is all the result of one owner’s local connection to the area. They hope the restaurant will also connect to the area, through locally sourced meat and vegetables and Appalachian-inspired recipes, as well as showcasing some of the music talent to be found here.

“…We’ve got so much local talent in our area that you’re going to be able to see the richness of what Tazewell and Tazewell County and the Appalachians have to give,” says Debra Wilson, the accountant for the Wayfarer and a Tazewell County resident herself.

Wilson hopes The Wayfarer will honor the area’s agricultural past while looking towards its future. While no opening date is set yet, she says to watch for future announcements.
