CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The term “Coalfield Basketball” was thrown around a ton Tuesday night inside the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center as Wyoming East and Logan met up for a third time this season.
If you weren’t sure what exactly that meant, just watching these two battle it out seemed to be the answer.
A low-scoring, gritty, back-and-forth game between two AA staples provided one of the best games in the Boys and Girls Tournament to date.
In the first two meetings, Wyoming East won both but each game was decided by eight points or less, with the latest being a 65-63 win for Wyoming East just 17 days before Tuesday.
In this win-or-go-home game, it was Wyoming East again taking home the win, by a score of 44-42 after Logan was given the chance to tie it up at the free throw line with zeroes on the clock in the fourth quarter.
The first free throw rolled right off the rim, once again lifting the Warriors past Logan, but this time sending them home while putting Wyoming East in the AA semi-finals Thursday night.
