NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A GOP lawmaker is pushing to rename a major Texas highway after President Donald Trump.
Texas Rep. Joanne Shofner (R-Nacogdoches) filed a bill on March 14 proposing Interstate Highway 35 in Travis County as President Donald J. Trump Highway. HB 5503 would erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.
If passed, HB 5503 would take place Sept. 1, 2025.
Shofner was endorsed by President Trump in her race for the Texas House District 11 seat, in which she faced no Democratic challengers. She assumed office Jan. 14.
I am honored to receive this prestigious endorsement from President Trump. It’s rare to see President Trump endorse in a race like this, but it shows how important this election is–there is only one week until Election Day, and I am working hard to earn your vote. pic.twitter.com/Qp70vPWGEt
