A woman is accused of stabbing her 11-year-old son to death on Wednesday in a Southern California hotel room, according to authorities.
The incident happened at a La Quinta Inn in Santa Ana just after 9 a.m. local time, a police spokesperson told the Orange County Register.
The 48-year-old woman, who has otherwise not been identified, reportedly called police around 9:25 a.m. to tell authorities that she’d killed her son.
When first responders arrived at the hotel, they found the boy stabbed multiple times, reported KTLA. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman allegedly told authorities that she’d ingested an undisclosed substance.
She was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police. She was said to be in stable condition Wednesday afternoon, ABC7 reported.
Both the woman and her son are believed to be Orange County residents, according to Fox LA.
A motive for the stabbing remains under investigation, officials said.
