Police said one of its officers was also taken to the hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries after the crash.

AUSTIN, Texas — A child has died following a crash involving an Austin police patrol vehicle earlier this month.

The crash happened on Monday, March 10 just before 10 p.m. on North Lamar Boulevard in North Austin.

According to Austin police, an officer was responding to a disturbance after a caller reported that someone was about to be shot. The officer had his lights and sirens on when the driver of another vehicle pulled out in front of the officer from a private driveway.

Three vehicles, including the patrol vehicle, were involved in the crash. A 4-year-old was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the officer was also hospitalized with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The 4-year-old, identified by police as Gracy Gomez Andres, died on Friday, March 14.

The adult traveling with Andres suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Two other people in the third vehicle were not injured.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and that information from its initial assessment may change.

Andres’ death is under investigation as Austin’s 16th deadly crash of 2025, resulting in 20 deaths. At this time in 2024, Austin had 12 deadly crashes resulting in 12 deaths.
