A Loose Women panel member has shed light on one aspect of King Charles’ marriage to Princess Diana that he supposedly found “difficult to cope with”.

Jane Moore pointed out that the then Prince of Wales struggled with Diana’s “moody” and “mercurial” moods during their time as husband and wife.

Jane, who encountered Diana multiple times in her career as a royal reporter, discussed these insights alongside her co-panellist Sunetra Sarker on their recent podcast.

They speculated about the role Diana might have continued to play within the Royal Family had she not tragically passed away 28 years ago, Cambridgeshire Live reports.

In terms of Diana’s demeanour, Jane observed: “She could be quite mercurial. One minute she’d be quite chitty chitty chat chat with you, and then if there was something that happened that she didn’t like, she would be very frosty.

“She was quite moody, I suppose, and I think that was what Charles found very difficult to cope with because she was a lot younger than him.”

Despite the fact that Charles has been contentedly wedded to Queen Camilla since 2005, the public remains fascinated by his previous union with Diana. Lasting curiosity has been fuelled by the hit Netflix series The Crown’s depiction of their married life.

Further revelations continue to emerge about Charles and Diana’s complex relationship over the years. Some disclosures relate to actions Charles took prior to their significant age-gap wedding, when he was 32 and Diana was only 20.

In his book ‘Diana: In Her Own Words’, Andrew Morton revealed that the Princess of Wales received a note from Prince Charles on the eve of their wedding wishing her luck.

She recounted: “He sent me a very nice signet ring the night before to Clarence House, with the Prince of Wales feathers on and a very nice card that said: ‘I’m so proud of you and when you come up I’ll be there at the altar for you tomorrow. ‘Just look ’em in the eye and knock ’em dead.”

The royal couple tied the knot less than 24 hours later in a grand ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral on July 29, 1981, watched by an audience of 750 million people across 74 countries.

Diana reflected on her feelings during the ceremony saying: “I remember being so in love with my husband that I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I just absolutely thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. He was going to look after me.”

However, their marriage came to an end 15 years later with an official divorce on August 28, 1996, after having two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Discussing their relationship post-divorce with the Daily Express, historian and Royal commentator Marlene Koenig stated: “I think they came to an understanding.

“I think she was aware that Camilla was the one and she wasn’t. But the thing was they actually met the day of the Decree Nisi not the Absolute and they actually talked and met and sat down and Diana told a reporter – and I remember this – after this she wished she could have made their love letters public because she knew Charles loved her in the beginning.

“But it was never meant to be. It was an arranged marriage. But they hadn’t had time to get to know each other, court each other. They learned a lot from that mistake.”
