(CNN) – It’s been nearly three years since 14-year-old Tyre Sampson died after falling from a Florida amusement park ride.
Now, a former maintenance technician has filed a lawsuit against the ride operator.
According to the lawsuit filed by an Orlando-based law firm, Austin Alexander says he spoke out about safety issues with the FreeFall ride that resulted in Sampson’s death.
Alexander worked as a maintenance technician for the ride from April 2021 to March 2023.
He says he expressed concerns about the ride’s ability to accommodate larger patrons and cracks in the ride’s metal structure.
The lawsuit claims his concerns were ignored, and that Alexander was asked to falsify maintenance logs to reflect tasks as completed prior to the incident.
He says he refused to comply, was placed on leave, and was later terminated.
Sampson died in March 2022 after falling from the 430-foot drop tower attraction.
Inspectors later revealed the teen had been too big for the ride and the shoulder harness wasn’t secured.
The ride has since been taken down.
