PRINCETON, W.Va. – A nationally renowned top chef is dishing out more than culinary cuisine at the latest meeting of a local civic organization. Paul Smith served up world-class wisdom.

The businessman out of Charleston, West Virginia, boasting multiple restaurants, including 1010 Bridge of which he is also the executive chef, The Pitch, and two future endeavors. But recently, he was a guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Princeton, sharing his story, his love of cooking, and his appreciation for Appalachia and West Virginia.

“Well, I think West Virginia deserves and needs more to cheer for, and I think what we’ve accomplished in a small state, in a small city, in a small restaurant, I think it shows that when you put your mind to it and you surround yourself with good people that you can accomplish anything,” said Smith.

Smith became a James Beard Award-winning chef when he won the category of Best Chef: Southeast in 2024.

“West Virginia was always kind of America’s best kept secret, and I think now the secret’s out, and I want to try and get more people here to West Virginia to experience what we have to offer.”
