KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – On Thursday, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office released shocking video of a driver illegally speeding past a school bus, nearly hitting a student in the process.
Near miss caught on camera as driver illegally passes school bus
On Friday morning, the sheriff’s office announced that multiple charges had been filed against Kevin W. Webster of Saint Albans.

Deputies say Webster was driving the Lincoln sedan when it nearly hit that student, crossing the double yellow line to pass the stopped school bus with its stop arm extended.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office had arrested Webster on Saturday, March 15, while he was driving the same white Lincoln.
Additional reports from the Saint Albans Police Department further placed him behind the wheel of that vehicle in separate incidents.
The sheriff’s office reported that video surveillance shows Webster pulling into the Coal River Road 7-Eleven just moments before the incident involving the school bus.
An interview with Webster at the Western Regional Jail secured evidence that led to an additional charge of driving under the influence as a habitual drug user, deputies say.
Webster has been charged with DUI, reckless driving, overtaking and passing a school bus, driving on a revoked license for DUI, and driving suspended.
If you live in or around Coal River Road, James Street, or Strawberry Road, the sheriff’s office is asking to review any video surveillance captured on Friday, March 14, 2025, between 3:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
If you have any video that may provide additional evidence against Kevin Webster, you are asked to contact the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office at (304) 357-0169 or submit video by clicking here.
