Upgrading to a new TV with a larger screen can be a big investment, but shoppers looking to boost their home viewing experience are in luck.

The four-starred Amazon Fire TV 50-inch Omni QLED series 4K is currently £399.99, down from £649.99 – a reduction of 38% – thanks to an Early Amazon Spring Deal.

4k quality imaging means that, even across 50 inches of screen, the picture is crisp. What’s more, the screen comes pre-loaded with Fire TV software – meaning all the major TV apps and streaming services are easy to access and switch between.

It also features Alexa, so it can be voice-activated, making it suitable for those who struggle to use remotes. The built-in Fire TV Ambient Experience means it can also be turned into a digital canvas for displaying family photos or artwork. Adding a TV wall mounting unit costs an additional £125.

If a 50-inch screen is a little too big, Debenhams has the Cello 32-inch TVHD Ready LED Freeview, Super Slim Design, C32220 on sale for £179.99 – much cheaper, but the picture is smaller. It’s got multiple USB ports to hook up games consoles and can display content downloaded from computers, too.

Alternatively, Currys has the HISENSE 50E7NQTUK 50″ Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR QLED TV with Amazon Alexa for £349 (was £369). It also comes with Alexa built in, a two year warranty and a Quad Core 4K processor – which means AI constantly boosts the picture for a better quality image.

Customers have found a to love about the 50-inch 4k Fire TV. One customer said: “This TV has amazing picture quality, the interface is fast, and it’s amazingly simple once set up. You can search for any TV show/movie, and it’ll find where you can watch it and allow you to play it instantly. It’s so slick and streamlined. My dad, who was only watching broadcast TV because he couldn’t work a DVD player, is now watching catch-up TV, Netflix and classic comedy from BBC/channel 4 because he can just speak into a remote. Impressive for how cheap it is.”

A second said: “I love the TV. The functionality is so nice and simple to use. I love everything about this TV, and I’ll highly recommend to everyone too. The display is nice, the colour is great, the sound is great, the size is perfect.”

However, one customer said: “The only problem I can really point out is that using the terrestrial TV guide is a bit slow. It takes what seems like an age to bring up your TV guide. However, once you have been using the guide and channel swapping, it speeds up a bit. I have noticed that while scrolling down through the TV channels four at a time speeds things up rather than one a time and waiting for each one to load.”

Another added: “Such a great TV. It’s an impressive picture with a really good sound. I love the fact Alexa is built-in, so I can use it to listen to music or ask the usual questions that I would ask the Echo Dot. Easily wall mountable and looks good as well.”
