WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Elon Musk met with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon on Friday morning to discuss DOGE and efficiencies, President Donald Trump said on Friday.
The president and Hegseth dismissed reports claiming that Musk was at the White House to be briefed about potential war plans with China.
“We welcomed him today to the Pentagon to talk about DOGE, to talk about efficiencies, to talk about innovations. It was a great informal conversation. The rest of that reporting was fake. There was no war plans. There’s no Chinese war plans. There was no secret plans,” said Secretary Hegseth.
Musk wrote in a post on X that the reporting was “pure propaganda” and added that he was looking forward to the prosecutions of people at the Pentagon “are leaking maliciously false information.”
The president insisted both on Truth Social and in the Oval Office on Friday that Musk’s meeting was held to discuss ways to make the Pentagon more efficient.
“He’s fighting tremendous waste, fraud and abuse. But I certainly wouldn’t want, you know, Elon has businesses in China and he would be susceptible perhaps to that. But it was such a fake story,” said President Trump.
On Thursday night and Friday, Democrats began speaking out against Musk’s meeting on social media.
“There’s no conceivable rational explanation why DOGE or @elonmusk should have any access to such sensitive information, and such access must be denied immediately,” wrote Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) on X.
“Handing Musk our military plans for China goes far beyond the usual kleptocracy of this admin,” wrote Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) on X. “Musk has a significant financial stake in China. Trump’s gone from stashing national security secrets in a Mar-a-lago bathroom to selling them to his biggest donor.
Musk’s visit to the Pentagon came just after Hegseth announced $580 million dollars in DOGE spending cuts.
