Operation Branchform was a huge shadow hanging over Nicola Sturgeon.
But now her name has been cleared, which was obviously a matter of some relief to the former first minister when she spoke to the media yesterday.
It is nearly two years since her home was raided by police as part of the probe into SNP finances.
She had always insisted she had no case to answer and yesterday she was, in her own words, vindicated.
Sturgeon remains a divisive figure among SNP members and the country at large.
But her political legacy will now be free of any hint of impropriety related to Branchform.
Sturgeon was a formidable figure in Scottish politics over two decades and experienced many highs and lows.
She served Scotland for nearly nine years as first minister and was deputy first minister for seven years beforehand.
Sturgeon oversaw 10 different election wins as SNP leader and represented Scotland well on the international
stage.
It is easy to forget the dark days of Covid when she cut a reassuring figure in her daily briefings when the UK was led by a bumbling self-serving fool in Boris Johnson.
The political failures have been well covered on these pages as we held her government to account throughout her time in office.
Sturgeon recently announced she is to stand down as an MSP.
Now Branchform is behind her, she can get on with the rest of her life. It is time to move on.
Lockdown still affecting lives
Ann Gibson is going to die because of delays in her treatment which were caused by the Covid lockdown.
The shutdown of large parts of the NHS during the worst of the pandemic caused a huge backlog.
This meant Ann could not be seen when she should have been, and it allowed her cancer to spread.
It is a terrible situation which no one should have had to go through.
Many of us have tried to blank out Covid, and forget a period where our lives were turned upside down.
But for some this is impossible and the pandemic is still impacting their lives.
The problems have continued to last, with our health service still facing great pressures and huge waiting lists.
The impact of the pandemic will still be felt for some time to come.
