A 39-year-old motorist was killed in a crash on a Bronx highway early Saturday in which the hit-and-run driver responsible escaped on foot, police said.
The victim’s black Ford Crown Victoria with New Jersey license plates was heading south on the Major Deegan Expressway near West Fordham Road in University Heights about 3:45 a.m. when a black Mercedes-Benz rear-ended him, cops said.
Both cars veered out of control and crashed on the highway, cops said.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz managed to escape the mangled wreck and was seen running off the highway on foot, cops said.
EMS rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died. His name was not immediately released as cops tracked down family members.
The southbound lanes of the Major Deegan Expressway were shut down for several hours as police investigated the crash.
No arrests have been made.
