Rangers daft WWE star Drew McIntyre is convinced Rangers are on the right track under Barry Ferguson – after revealing he couldn’t even bring himself to say sacked Philippe Clement’s name.

The Scottish ring star is pushing for a “special” Glasgow appearance in Monday’s WWE Raw event at the Hydro. And the 39-year-old from Ayr spoke about the impact Ferguson is having on his beloved Light Blues.

McIntyre spoke in the summer of his high hops for Rangers under Clement but it went horribly wrong for the Belgian and the WWE hero admitted he had to go. He said of last weekend’s dramatic late win over Celtic: “I did watch the game and I was absolutely buzzing..

“I never want anybody to lose their job unless it’s the man himself. I still refuse to say his name. When I was at Ibrox, I was doing one of those games with the staff where they muffle the faces and I couldn’t guess who he was. I got everybody else, except the gaffer. It was time, I don’t want anyone to lose their job, their livelihood, but he had to be gone.

“There was clearly one person that was the issue and as soon as he was going, Barry and the team came in and what we needed was somebody that was going to make the guys play for the jersey. Start acting like true Rangers players and playing with their freaking heart. That’s what we needed, especially in the Old Firm.

“It started with Fenerbache which was awesome. The Chosen One was laughing at the Special One getting smashed at penalties.

“Then going to Celtic as well and even though we were two nil up and it got close, we still won it. So we’re on the right path now and I’ve got a good feeling that we’re going to keep on this path because we’ve got someone in the head position in Barry Ferguson that’s going to make sure everyone plays for the jersey because if they don’t, then they’re out the door.”

Monday Night Raw heads to Glasgow as the ‘Road To WrestleMania’ continues but as things stand McIntyre won’t be in attendance as last month he was moved from Raw to SmackDown, meaning he won’t feature on the UK leg of the tour until SmackDown on March 28 in London.

But he said: “Let’s just say I’ve been shouting about it. You never know what’s going to happen in WWE but I’ve not been quiet about it for the past few months so we’ll see and keep our fingers and toes crossed because I promise you, the right people have been getting shouted at by me.

“We’ve had so many big shows in the UK, with the last Clash at the Castle where, aside from the finish, it’s like a story in itself at the moment. Eventually, I’m going to have that big moment where I don’t get screwed, but to just see Glasgow buzzing and jumping for WWE and to see how many people showed up. There’s no atmosphere and fans like the Scottish fans.

“These days I have a very different mindset than what I used to have, in that anything and everything is possible. It’s not just that there’s going to be a big show in the UK at some point. I believe there is going to be a WrestleMania.

“I’ve said that from the moment I started believing that anything is possible. So if you want your headline, John Cena tried to claim credit for it when we came to London a couple of years back.

“I said it first that there would be a Mania in the UK before Cena started running around trying to take credit. Drew McIntyre said it first because I know it’s going to happen eventually.

“We’ve still got weeks until Mania and anything can change in that time. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t p****d off at not being in one of the title matches after the 2024 I had, but it’s just because I’m so highly competitive and sometimes, you know, there’s only a few spots.”

WWE is available to watch on Netflix in the UK and Ireland, including RAW, Smackdown, NXT, all Premium Live Events and the WWE archive. Tickets to the Road to WrestleMania UK Shows this March are available now at AXS .
