AUSTIN, Texas — Just hours after firing head basketball coach Rodney Terry, the Texas Longhorns have reportedly already found his replacement.
The Longhorns are poised to hire Xavier coach Sean Miller as their new head coach, according to a report from KVUE’s media partners at the Austin American-Statesman. Miller was reportedly a finalist for the Texas job in 2023 before Terry was ultimately given the full-time role.
Miller spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Xavier, the same place he started his head coaching career in 2004. In between his two stints at Xavier, he served as the head coach at Arizona, making it to the Elite 8 three times in 12 seasons with the Wildcats.
The Longhorns should have some familiarity with Miller, considering his team at Xavier ended the Longhorns’ season in the First Four of the 2025 NCAA Tournament Wednesday night.
In 20 seasons as a head coach, Miller has a 487–196 record, a 71% winning percentage.
